The Prisoners’ Brain Trust was founded by incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people to ensure that our community, not the state, carries the torch of memory and action.

This is no historic accident.

The perpetuation of racism and violence through incarceration has remained in effect due to unjust laws still in place.

We aim to promote safer communities by addressing systemic violence built into New York law, harming Black & Brown & marginalized communities.
